Romantic Movies
We Recommend for Your Date

Our dating relationship professionals have their favorite list romantic movies that you might want to check out with your special someone.

If you are stumped and don't know where to look for a romantic film idea, we are here to help.

Based on our research and tips from the pros, we've come up with the best love movies that will set the mood for sure.

Our picks for favorite romantic films are:

1. Gone with the Wind (1939)
Romantic Leads: Clark Gable and Vivian Leigh  Leigh's hot-tempered, self-centered beauty thinks she loves the gentlemanly Ashley Wilkes, played by Leslie Howard. The smug, rebellious blockade-running profiteer Rhett Butler, however, knows the Scarlett belongs with him. Set against the Civil War, this tragic love quadrangle that is completed by Olivia DeHavilland as Wilkes' long-suffering wife, Melanie is a once in a lifetime experience.

2. Casablanca (1942)
Romantic Leads: Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman.  Is probably one of the most romantic movies ever made, but it’s also an exciting character driven war story set in a wonderfully exotic setting. Bogie plays Rick, an expatriate American who’s hiding from his painful past in Nazi controlled Vichy French Morocco. He warily ignores the World War II intrigue that swirls all around him, concentrating instead on running a popular Casablanca nightspot.

3. Titanic (1997)
Romantic Leads: Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet.  One of the more popular romantic movies since Casablanca.  The telling of a beautiful love story against the backdrop of one of history's most tragic events makes Titanic a story for the ages. Starring Kate Winslet as Rose DeWitt, a daughter of privilege, and Leonardo DiCaprio as Jack Dawson, a poor young artist, the film deftly depicts the true meaning of star-crossed love.

4. An Affair to Remember (1957)
Romantic Leads: Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr This is the standard for which most romantic movies are based.  It is the classic of boy meets girl, boy loses girl, and boy gets girl again but with one of the most famous meeting places in film history.

5. Pretty Woman (1990)
Romantic Leads: Richard Gere, Julia Roberts This movie witnessed the first pairing of another magical screen couple, Richard Gere and Julia Roberts in an updated version of the Cinderella story. Gere plays Edward Lewis, a cold hearted businessman who picks up a Hollywood hooker named Vivan Ward (Roberts) for what he intends to be a fun evening. What results, however, is one of the most delightful movie romances of all time.

6. Ghost (1990)
Romantic Leads: Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore This is probably the ultimate chick flick. It pairs together Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore in their one and only turn together. Swayze plays Sam Wheat, a New York yuppie who is killed during a mugging. He returns to earth with a mission to find his murderer and save his fiancée, Molly Jensen (Moore) from the same fate.

7. When Harry Met Sally (1989)
Romantic Leads: Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan Harry Burns, played by Billy Crystal, and Sally Albright, played by Meg Ryan, meet when they drive together to New York City. They quickly discover that they don't really get along. This is sealed after they have a big discussion about how men and women can never really be friends because "the sex thing gets in the way." However, these two neurotic New Yorkers keep running into each other over a period of 13 years and slowly but surely form a strong friendship that eventually verges on romance.

8.  Sabrina (1954)
Billy Wilder's stylish modern Cinderella story stars Audrey Hepburn as Sabrina, the chauffeur's daughter who fancies herself in love with the youngest son of her father's employer, David Larabee (played by William Holden). However, David is a playboy who is bound to break the girl's heart. To prevent this from happening, her father sends Sabrina to Paris to study. When she finally returns, David finds himself spellbound by the lovely, sophisticated young woman.

9Forrest GumpForrest Gump (1994)
Yes…Forrest Gump.  One of our favorite romantic movies (of sorts) and had to add it to our list.  The love that Forrest (played by Tom Hanks) has for Jenny is so sweet.  The world will never be the same once you've seen it through the eyes of Forrest Gump.  Forrest Gump, while not intelligent, has accidentally been present at many historic moments, but his true love, Jenny, eludes him.

9. City of Angels (1998)
Romantic Leads: Nicholas Cage and Meg Ryan.  Not one of your most well-known romantic movies, but we like it.  "It is very moving that someone would give up his eternal life just to be with you." --Mary F. "It really touches you and makes you feel lucky to be in love and be able to share your world with the person that you love." --tbelk "One moment with someone you love is better than an eternity without them!".
