First Dates
Don't have to be Nerve Wracking

First dates don't have to be painful.  In fact, if they are done right, they can be very exciting.

But if you are stuck and not sure where to take your date?  We have a few suggestions.

Before we suggest where to go, let's set some ground rules first.

Here are some things to remember:
  • Dress comfortably...but nice.
  • Don't be a slob.
  • Practice good manners.
  • Thank the other person for the date, always, without exception.
  • Focus on the other person...pay attention to your date.
  • No wandering eyes.
  • No preoccupation with old relationships.
  • Listen actively to what your date says.
  • Don't interrupt while your date is talking.
  • Stay positive...don't "complain" on a first date.
  • Be cautious about alcohol..if you drink heavily, you're not going to be at your best.   Nobody wants to see you dancing "the robot".

No matter how much you try to look your best and spit-shine your car for that extra gloss, you are only as good as what you have to offer.

This means that the slickest and smoothest talker has to follow up with fun and original first date ideas.

First dates don't have to be really expensive or mind-boggling complex.  Just put a little thought behind it and make sure it is something you are comfortable with.

The list below covers the relatively inexpensive to the more costly date ideas.

A trip to the beach
  • This is the perfect way to enjoy the sun and show off your new swimsuit.  And if you get there around sunset, you add in the romance factor.
How about a game of billiards?
  • This is kind of fun and can make you chuckle at seeing how "bad" you are.
  • And if the game is going along nicely, you can even throw in a few side bets.  "Whoever loses this game buys dinner next weekend".

Miniature golf
  • Along the same lines as bowling, pool and darts.  As long as you can swing a club, you should be ok.  Don't forget the side bet.
Amusement parks
  • No...it's not just for kids.  This can be a fun alternative to a loud bar or dance club.  A ferris wheel is always a good choice.  Or try and win your date a stuffed teddy bear.

Picnic by the water
  • A good date need not involve a second mortgage on your home. It can simply be a quiet get together that allows for stimulating conversation. It can also be a good way for you to show off your sandwich-making skills.
Long romantic ride
  • If you want to impress your date with a great night on the town, rent a limo and cruise some of the more romantic spots on town.
Old reliables
  • Get-to-know-you coffee date
  • Good food, good music and comfortable furniture
  • Visit museums, historic sites or antique shows
  • Sports, gambling and the theater
